One in Five Dentists Has Dated a Dental Patient (VIDEO)

Do dentists date their patients? Our survey revealed that it’s not as rare as some might think. Overall, about one in five dentists reported having been involved with a patient at some point in their careers.

Male dentists were significantly more likely than their female colleagues to have had a relationship with a patient. (Or at least, the men were more likely to admit to it…)

Dentist Office Romance for 1 in 5 Dentists (video)

One dentist in five dentists acknowledges having been romantically involved with a coworker or employee at their dental practice (other than their spouse), this survey found.

"Do you know how to ruin a good employee? Become romantically involved with her or him," said one orthodontist.

"It is a sure way to complicate your life," agreed a pediatric dentist. "Economically devastating also. I have seen the consequences with many of my colleagues."

"A very bad idea in the workplace," offered an endodontist, while a pediatric dentist advised, "Don't mix business with pleasure."

Dentist & Dental Patient Romance (video)

One dentist in five reports having been romantically involved with a patient, found this survey.

“Totally inappropriate,” declared a dental hygienist.

“Dating patients doesn’t work unless you marry them,” declared one dentist. “After you have dated a patient, and it doesn’t work out, you lose the patient and a good source of referrals. My advice: No matter how right it seems, don’t date a patient!”

“I became romantically involved with some patients when I was single, young and foolish,” recalled a dental implant dentist.

“I married one 51 years ago and am still married to her,” offered another dentist.

Dating Coworkers: One in 5 Dentists Has Done It (VIDEO)

One of five dentists admitted to dating a coworker or employee at their dental practice (other than their spouse) in a Wealthy Dentist survey.

Most caution against mixing business with pleasure, but a few happy marriages have been born in the dental office.

PA Regulations: Your Dentist Cannot Be Your Boyfriend

New guidelines in that state prohibit dentists and hygienists from dating (or exchanging sexual words with) patients they have treated within the past three months. The Pennsylvania Dental Association argues that consensual romantic relationships aren’t unethical.
