“Chewable Jewels” Take the Pain out of Teething
Dr. Helen Bloom Smith is a dentist and a mother. She’d noticed how babies tend to chew on women’s jewelry, and she was concerned about the dental impact of teething on glass and metal. She has designed her own line of jewelry that doubles as teething toys. Her Chewable Jewels are made of FDA-approved silicone.
“I saw their teeth biting down on these glass beads and it horrified me. I tried to pull it away, but they wanted them — they always want what you’re wearing,” said Dr. Smith. “Then I looked around the room, and I noticed that the moms weren’t wearing jewelry and I thought, why can’t we wear pretty jewelry?”
