Electric Toothbrushes & the “Lipstick Effect”

Electric toothbrush economic indicatorA recent Oral-B survey found that sales of electric toothbrushes in the UK are up 30% over last year. So what's the relationship between between toothbrush sales and the worldwide economic climate?

Well, it just may be an example of the "lipstick effect," wherein people only splurge on small luxuries during hard times.

It's said that Americans bought twice as much lipstick after 9/11.

The survey also revealed that more women would be willing to part with their hair dryer or straightener than their electric toothbrush.
