I HATE CPAP is only one such marketing company for dentists who provide oral appliance therapy for snoring and sleep apnea. The approach, as successful as it may be, has angered dentistry’s physician colleagues as well as the Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine because of its negativity toward CPAP therapy which is still the primary therapeutic means for sleep apneics. The approach also limits the public health efficacy of dentistry’s involvement.

SNORING ISNT SEXY, LLC , on the other hand, markets to the 45% of the public that snore. Snoring, one sign of obstructive sleep apnea, has itself been indicted as a causative factor in stroke and hypertension.

While it is important that we as a profession educate both the medical profession and the patients who cannot tolerate their cpap that dentistry offers solutions, it is imperative that we reach out to all who snore about the medical ramifications of both snoring and sleep apnea.
