I agree to some degree as well. Google definitely is the biggest search engine right now and it is foolish not to target it when doing SEO. However, I believe that Bing is really gaining some leads so it will also be wise to try and focus some attention to it when doing your campaigns.

I agree that Google should be the main focus, but I have to disagree on the fact that it is the only search engine that matters. We receive a fairly substantial amount of traffic from Yahoo and Bing, in addition to our main traffic source which is of course Google.

There is no doubt that Google is the #1 search engine to focus on, however leaving the other 2 completely out the equation might be a mistake (my opinion of course).

Most search engine optimization (SEO) agencies are accepted as an integral part of the strategy of broader marketing clients - and that's because it is increasingly clear that any other SEO based online advocacy tool .

In fact, my recent post "How to achieve excellence in marketing whole" how SEO can work with many other marketing tools so that the cost of marketing work even harder.

Despite this, some just do not understand SEO. I was talking to a young, SEO bright, up-and-coming at a recent conference on the strategy used to drive an already popular site.

I agree that Google is the main search engine people tend to use, but we should not put all our eggs into one basket. It takes very little time to submit your website to all of the search engines, and the more exposure, the better it is for your website.

Getting a top placement in the search engines doesn't have to be difficult. If the main keyword is too competitive, it is always worthwhile going for several longer tail keywords too. That way you can get top placings relatively easily, and the accumulation of traffic captured by those longer tail keywords can amount to a significant number - and often highly targeted so more likely to convert into business/sales.

@Marc This is quite true, and the reason being is that many internet users look at "sponsored ads" are marketers trying to throw money at getting to the topic, because their web site is not informative enough to get them their organically. Even the ones that do not have that much of technical knowledge still think of it this way, but in a different form.

Good point about focusing on organic search over PPC - in a speech given by Google executive Avinash Kaushik he said that only 14% of Google clicks come from paid search (PPC) - 86% are from the organic section.

Be very sure before you start any kind of link building efforts that you either have someone on staff who understands the ethical way to build links, or hire a company that follows the professional guidelines. Obtaining links to your website through spammy, black hat, or unethical practices can get you banned by Google. It is possible to do link building yourself if you have the time, energy, resources and knowledge, and there are lots of sites that give great, free advice. Otherwise, hire an expert; it costs less than you think and you'll be pleased with the results.
