Braces for Adults More Popular?

Dental braces for adults have become increasingly popular, new numbers from the UK suggest.

However, these "numbers" are in fact based on a five-fold increase in the adult braces patients of a single orthodontic practice.

I'm not sure the success of a single orthodontist doing dental marketing for adult braces means other dentists are seeing the same thing… In fact, most report that all cosmetic dentistry is down.

Sure, grown-ups love invisible braces and ceramic braces… but in this economy, are these pricey treatments really on the rise?

Speaking from US experience, everything I’ve heard from both the AAO, the group Women in Orthodontics, and various orthodontists, is that yes, the number of adults in braces continues to rise. The numbers I hear most often are 1 out of 5 patients being over age 18. However, I have spoken with professionals who say that in some urban areas, that number is 1 out of 3. Informally, I’ve seen a great deal of web forum traffic and queries in my own publishing business that reflect increasing interest from people in their early twenties to their late 50s. My own mother had braces at age 68, back in 1993; I had them last year at age 53. Hope this helps.

I see far more adults willing to opt for ortho treatment. Some are touch-ups with Invisalign and some never had the opportunity when they were young.
