When we asked dentists what they charge for a dental veneer, the
average answer was $1,100 for both a traditional porcelain veneer and for a
Lumineer.
"Veneers are harder to do correctly from a technical aspect than a ceramic crown," said one dentist. Agreed another, "I wish I could do them cheaper, but good lab work and planning takes time and money."
Prosthodontists report charging several hundred dollars more per tooth veneer than general dentists in this survey.
Tooth veneers = dental crowns?
- "We do not do many partial veneers, mostly 'full' veneers: porcelain fused to zirconia. Actually, we never say 'crown' in our prosthodontic practice! Our patients come back and say they 'just love their new veneers!' Think about it; crowns are really full veneers." (Tennessee prosthodontist)
- "I think veneers are as technique sensitive as traditional crowns, and therefore I charge the same amount. I charge more for dental implant crowns." (California dentist)
- "They are harder to do correctly from technical aspect than an all-ceramic crown." (Florida dentist)
- "I also charge a wax-up and provisional fee of about $200 each" (Colorado dentist)
- "Its not enough for the time it takes....it is a lot more complicated than a crown." (Mississippi dentist)
Bulk discounts
- "Depending upon the number of teeth to be done, I will discount my per-tooth fee. In a difficult case where the patient requests only 1-2 veneers, I may up the fee to cover the additional probable chair time/expense due to the complexity of matching shades." (Oklahoma dentist)
- "The more Lumineers, the less the fee per veneer. Fee starts at $1,300 for one, $1,200 each for two, $1,100 each for 3, etc." (California dentist)
- "Although the fee is slightly less than our fee for an all ceramic crown, veneers are almost always placed as multiple units of 8-10 veneers, making a small discount per unit reasonable and still profitable." (North Carolina dentist)
Higher lab fees for Lumineers
- "I charge more for the Lumineers because of the higher lab fee." (California dentist)
- "Cost of materials is the same. Denmat Studios fees for Lumineers is higher than what it cost me for a traditional veneer." (General dentist)
- "The lab cost in America is too high. With the economic slowdown, they need to lower their prices so dentists can decrease the cost to patients." (Florida dentist)
Other dental veneer options
- "I use Durathin, which are state-of-the-art no-prep veneers." (Arizona dentist)
- "I offer Mac veneers for $1500." (Nevada dentist)
- "We only us da Vinci for our veneers. I stopped doing Lumineers 3 years ago." (Wisconsin dentist)
Some don't prefer Lumineers
- "I do not like Lumineers except in certain situations. More marketing than good product." (Mississippi dentist)
- "I'm not fond of Lumineers. I have them and they look bulky and one has already debonded after 2 years and the margins are staining." (Texas dentist)
- "Lumineers are no longer offered in my office." (General dentist)
Some do prefer Lumineers

No-prep veneers?
- "I like the concept of minimal prep, but I don't care for Lumineers' results. However, I do appreciate their marketing and the awareness they have brought to the subject." (Virginia dentist)
- "We charge the same for Lumineers as porcelain veneers. Lab bills are comparable as well. Patients seem to be more concerned with whether or not you need to cut the teeth than the cost differential." (Ohio dentist)
- "The indications for no prep veneers are virtually nonexistent." (Maryland dentist)
Any profits for dentists in veneers for teeth?
- "I wish I could do them cheaper, but good lab work and planning takes time and money." (Michigan dentist)
- "It took me a long time to raise my veneer fee to match or surpass my PFM fee. Veneers require more time, and provisionalizing is very difficult." (Colorado dentist)
- "Sometimes I don't think I charge enough, but if a patient is going to do 6 or 8 at once, the total fee seems adequate for the amount of work being done." (Florida dentist)
- "I don't do many at that price. Guess I am not a good salesman. Maybe 5 cases in 9 years." (Oklahoma dentist charging $1100 for porcelain veneers)
