ADA Left Holding the Bag as Government Remains Mum on Lead Scandal
This week, I'm examining the ADA's correspondence with governmental health
agencies about the possibility of dental labs producing lead-tainted crowns and
bridges. To look at the FDA and CDC's web pages, you'd never know we were in the
midst of a major scandal. So far, the ADA seems to be the public's only real source of information. Am I the only one who sees a problem with that fact?

Survey Results: Bisphenol-A
Dentists Worried About Chemical in Composite and Sealants
Given the recent negative publicity surrounding bisphenol-A (BPA), our survey
covered dental sealants and composite. One in four dentists is very worried
about the safety of these products."It doesn't matter if composites and sealants are safe," wrote one
respondent. "If public perception is that they are not, it is very harmful to
dentistry."

Dentist" Fined by Dental Board
Australian dentist Dr. Paul Gardner
was reprimanded and fined $10,000 for bringing a little too much religion into
his dental practice. He was disciplined for telling a schizophrenic patient that
she was possessed by evil spirits. He suggested she stop taking her medication
and instead seek spiritual healing from his church. When the patient left the
treatment room, he followed her into the waiting room, chanting after her.
