Survey: Patient Excuses
"Sorry Doctor, I Can't Come in Because I Have a Toothache"
In
this survey, we asked dentists about the funniest excuses they've heard from
patients for missing appointments. The clear winner was the toothache defense:
"My tooth hurts too bad to get out of bed." Other highlights
include, "My windshield wipers aren't working and it might rain," "I had to go
shopping for my daughter's bat mitzvah dress," and "I went a movie instead."

Whew! $15 Million Dental Malpractice Award in Washington
In a jury trial, Washington State's Spokane County Superior Court awarded a stunning $14.8 million to a woman left disabled after a series of jaw operations
left her jaw fused shut. The defendant's lawyer commented that it was
the largest dental malpractice award he had seen in his 21 years of practice in the state.
The oral surgeon is planning to appeal the verdict.
